Falmouth Resident Proposes Town Wide Fiber Optic Network

Courtney Bird of Sippewissett Road advocated for a Falmouth-wide fiber optic network before the Falmouth Economic Development and Industrial Corporation on Tuesday, April 9.

Fiber optic cables are bundles of optical fibers—strips of glass or plastic that are thinner than a strand of human hair. Information can travel across these fibers using the power of light. Fiber optic Internet cables are widely considered to be faster and more reliable than copper cables.

OpenCape, a nonprofit technology company in Barnstable Village, operates a fiber optic network that connects municipal buildings, schools and some businesses in Falmouth. If the EDIC moves forward with its plans, OpenCape will extend the network to businesses on Main Street. To read more of this article click here.
